The Dark Knight

With huge expectations I sat through The Dark Knight’s 152 minutes (and being late, missed the Watchmen trailer). And in the end, I found it merely mediocre. Just okay. Maybe average. All this bullshit about “best superhero movie to date” is hogwash

But still I’ll hop on the bandwagon when it comes to The Joker. Awesome. I’m not going to go on and on about how amazing Mr. Ledger was and how he should get an oscar nomination and/or win. I actually do believe he deserves an oscar nod, but come on folks, we’re only halfway through the year and Keanu Reeves looks fucking phenomenal in The Day the Earth Stood Still trailer. But I’m not going to talk about all that. I’m going to talk about The Joker, the sole factor that made this film respectable

Whether it was Nolan or Ledger or the devil himself, I congratulate whomever was the driving force in making The Joker the anarchic being presented in The Dark Knight. A villain is so much scarier when he has no motive, no purpose, and thrives solely on death & destruction of the world. I loved it. This is the Joker we needed. Here’s a couple of Joker quotes from the movie

“I believe whatever doesn’t kill you simply makes you… stranger.

“Do I look like a guy with a plan??

“The only sensible way to live in this world is without rules!

“Kill you? I don’t want to kill you! What would I do without you? Go back to ripping off mob dealers? No, no, you… you complete me.”

I still have much respect for Christopher Nolan and his flip on the Batman movies. Compared to those other shitshows Batman Forever and Batman & Robin, this movie is Citizen Cane.

Other quick notable thoughts: Is The Joker supposed to continue? I hope so but I don’t know how. Is Harvey Dent alive/dead? At first I thought dead, but after a little thought I’m not so sure. The coin landed next to him with the clean side up (he allowed his victims to live with the same result). Maggie Gyllenhaal is better than Katie Holmes, but that’s really not saying much.
